The world's largest maker of luxury cars - BMW, enjoys a long and interesting history that has not always been on the upswing.

The company, known today like BMW (German - Bayerische Motoren Werke AG / Bayerische Motoren Werke) was founded by Karl Friedrich Rapp in October 1913 in Munich. Originally it was conceived as a company that produces aircraft engines and dealt with by the end of WWI.

In 1913, in the north of Munich, Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto, create two small companies for aircraft engines. Launched the first world war immediately caused a flood of orders. Therefore, Rapp and Otto decided to unite in an aircraft factory.

Thus arises Munich company aircraft engines, which on July 21, 1917 is registered under the name Bavarian motor factories (Bayerische Motoren Werke - BMW).

After the end of World War aircraft production in Germany is prohibited and the BMW is evolving towards the production of train brakes.

In 1923, BMW constructed its first motorcycle R32, with a volume of 500 cm3 and air cooling.



In 1927 the company Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach AG in the town of Eisenach began production of the car Dixi (based on the Austin 7) under license Austin Motor Company (subsequently became part of Rover).

Following his desire to enter the car business, BMW bought ayzenahskata company and so Dixi became the first car BMW.

In the coming years BMW expanded its production by producing 6-cylinder sports cars and sedans. Produce 327 coupe and cabriolet and roadster 328 and 335.



BMW's reputation is based primarily on the luxury high-end cars, distinguished by sporty and powerful engines.

Different model families are called "series" and are marked with a number. Originally presented the BMW 5 - normal family sedan, followed by BMW 3 (compact family car) and the BMW 7 (luxury sedan).



Typically, each model is marked with three digits and one or more letters (eg 325iX) - the first of the numbers associated with the affiliation of the vehicle to a series (in the example third series), the next two - the volume of the engine and the letters show type of fuel and other specificities.
